AUTHOR BIO

Kevin Gen - Author of Coldren's Prison

The backstory

Born and raised in the Netherlands to a Dutch father and a New Zealand mother, I have always appreciated a good story. I read young adult mystery books throughout my childhood and soon began writing my own. At age 11, I finished my first book. Five more would follow in the next seven years. As these were written for a hobby rather than for publishing purposes, none of them were made available online or in bookstores.

In my University years and my years of travel after, the inner author was put on a hiatus because life got 'too busy'. Writing was moved to the back burner, where it stayed for fifteen years, long enough for even water to burn.

Eventually, the itch to write down the stories that roamed around in my head became too strong to ignore. My writing style and themes switched to darker, heavier topics. A good three years after typing the words 'Chapter One', the psychological thriller Coldren's Prison was printed on paper worldwide.

Traveling

Discovering new countries, cultures, food and languages: it has been one of my biggest passions ever since my parents first took me on an airplane across the world. Little did they know back then how often I would be away from home.

Music

I wouldn't know how to get through a day without music. It can brighten up any day. I played guitar and bass in two bands because I had to do more with music in my life than just listening to it.

Movies

As an author, I love a good story and I've always had a pretty serious obsession with movies. Whether it's a thriller, a comedy or animation, book me a seat for a few hours of getting lost in another world.

Kicking back

On a regular basis you gotta kick back with your family and friends, the people who raise you up and keep you grounded at the same time. Some experiences are better when shared.

Adventuring

I need adventure in my life. Whether you're asking me for something simple as hiking the great outdoors, taking light aircraft flying lessons, overnight mountain climbs, or paragliding, stop asking, count me in and sign me up!

Creation

I love the art of creation. Whether it's creating stories, writing songs on guitar, drawing, photography, doing some graphic design, or making videos for my wife and my YouTube channel, (almost) any creative process fascinates me.
